My First Sip

Just in case you have missed the previous chapters of this debut, I had been ever so gently prodding John in the direction of making a Double Bond Rosé for years which was met with a stone wall of absolute refusal.

So imagine my surprise when a curious, elongated, elegantly sloped wine bottle filled with the palest peach showed up. Through the quarantine, lockdowns, work-from-home orders and maternity leave John had quite the secret, even from me; our very own Double Bond Rosé.

I remember the first time I tasted it.

Amidst the busyness of cook/tidy/life tasks I was mid-step between the stove and the sink as I raised the glass to my nose. I stopped. Transfixed. An instant transformation. It was one of those rare moments where, as it is happening, you know you’ll remember it forever. This was a fantastic wine. I slowed down and enjoyed the moment. I enjoyed the bouquet swirling in my nose. I enjoyed the delicate sip after sip. I even enjoyed the load of dishes that occurred between those sips.

I grabbed my phone and messaged John my signature serial texts.

Oh my… I can’t get over this. I just can’t get over it. So clean and precise. Strict but delicate. Dry yet succulent on the palate. Faintest strawberry rose florals. Tart green apples. Everything a person would want in Rosé and no over-powering alcohols or unpleasant metallic notes. Just amazing minerals like a drink of mountain water that quenches your thirst. I am blown away

A minute later:

I should have grabbed 2 bottles haha

A minute later:

The color is also PERFECT. Faintest blush- like a Pinot Grigio saw a handsome Cabernet. Just grand in every way.”

A minutes later:

Good call

A minute later:

How do our wines keep getting better?! Oh my goodness. This must go to San Francisco. It must.”

A minute later:

Augh. Okay I’m gonna stop until Shawn gets home.”

And I am pleased to report… I did save some for Shawn when he got home.

… a drop or two.
