My Favorite Pinot

The question I most often get is "What is your favorite wine?"

Our 2010 Pinot.

Hands down.

2010 was a big bold year. It was a year of pristine fruit in Edna Valley, the gem of the Central Coast. Our winemaker, Uncle John, took this incomparable fruit and guided it into the hallmark of Double Bond's Pinots.

It is the magnus opus.

It’s complex enough to withstand any pairing you throw at it; from the most casual of backyard cookouts, to the most intimate of private dinners, to the independent centerpiece sipped on its own… like I am doing right now.

Yet, it is light enough to marry with your Summer calendar and keep you cool in the hot summer sunsets that await just around the corner.

I can tell you it looks deep ruby with bright garnet edging.

That it smells like macerated pomegranate with rose hips opening to sun-dried strawberries and caramelized plums.
I can share that the palate is full of crushed wild berries intermingled with spice-accented forest floor and that it has a persistant tannic silk mouth feel full of vibrancy.

And despite that I want to share this classical burgundian Pinot with our bold Californian flair, I can't sent it directly to your inbox so you can sip it yourself instead of reading me talk about it, more's the pity.

But I can convince Double Bond's founder, John Klacking (a 2011 Pinot aficionado) to open up our library and a offer my favorite for a limited time at a price that will be your favorite.

Double Bond Vinter on Aging

It is common in France and other classical wine regions to age Pinots a number of years before imbibing. They are encouraged to age considerably longer than most people on the West Coast are accustomed to. Walking through your local wine shop here in the New World, it would not be out of place to see a 2016 Pinot Noir. There are many reasons of this high turn over of vintages, but speed to turn over vintages as quickly as possible has never been included in our winemaking philosophy. Although we specialize in Central Coast varietals, we deliberately design them to be aged like the classical varietals, where Pinots are allowed to age 20 years and beyond according to their potential. Our wines barrel age for up to 24 months and bottle age a minimum of two years and often longer. The 2010 is optimum and ready to drink now.
